Unit4 Why don’t you talk to your parents? Section A 1a-2c Teaching aims: 1. Knowledge aims: By the end of this class, 1) Students can read, write and use these words and expressions: allow, wrong, What’s wrong? too many, too much, not… until…, be good at, so that 2) Ss can use Modal verbs “could, should” and the structure “Why don’t you…?” correctly. 2. Ability aims: By the end of this class, Ss can listen to and understand the conversations about problems and advice. Ss can talk about problems and give advice. 3. Emotional aims: By the end of this class, Ss can have a positive attitude towards problems and know how to ask for help. Key points: 1. The words and expressions: allow, wrong, What’s wrong? too many, too much, not… until…, be good at, so that Modal verbs “could, should” and the structure “Why don’t you…?” Difficult points: Understand the listening texts and finish the listening tasks. Talk about problems and give advice. Teaching aids: the multi-media computer system Teaching steps: Step 1 Lead-in Focus Ss’ attention on the two pictures and ask 4 questions. Is the girl studying or sleeping? Is she happy or unhappy? Is the girl playing the piano or the violin? Is she happy or unhappy? T: The girl has her own problem that she has to do her homework although she is unhappy. Look at some other problems. Step 2 Before listening 1a The teacher explains too many, too much and allow to make sure the Ss can understand all the problems well. The Ss look at the problems and pick the one(s) they consider “serious”. The teacher asks 2 or 3 students to give their opinions and offer them some advice. Step 3 While listening 1b The teacher reads the instruction and plays the recording once. The Ss listen and complete the activity. Then volunteer to present their answers. 1c The teacher explains the instructions and plays the recording again. The Ss listen and fill in the blanks, then check the answers and practice the conversation in pairs. The teacher asks 1 pair
