The narrow streets were filled with small compact 2 cars and lots of motorcycles 3 and bikes. 2 A taxi driver gave me a ride to the Lorenzo de Medici Institute. Along the way I couldn’t help but notice how close everyone was driving next to each other. People would stop at intersections 4 or behind another car, leaving only a few inches between their vehicles 5 . The taxi driver slammed 6 on his brakes 7 to avoid hitting someone on his moped 8 and came within a foot of pedestrians 9 walking on the streets. People carried on without being surprised that the driver was inches away from hitting them or another car.
