Section A(1a-2d) Objectives: Introduce and practice vocabulary related to fears and phobias. Understand and use the target language structure “used to + verb” to talk about past experiences. Develop speaking and listening skills through conversations about fears. Encourage critical thinking and empathy towards others’ fears and phobias. Materials: Whiteboard or blackboard Markers or chalk Handouts with vocabulary lists and sentence structures Worksheet with comprehension questions Procedure: Warm-up: Begin the class by asking students if they can recall any fears or phobias they had in the past. Write a few examples on the board and encourage students to share their experiences. Introduction: Show pictures or real objects related to common fears (e.g., spiders, heights, public speaking) and ask students to identify them. Write the vocabulary words on the board along with their definitions. Provide additional examples of fears and phobias, and elicit responses from students. Ask if they have any personal experiences or know someone who has a specific fear. Vocabulary: Distribute the handouts with vocabulary lists and sentence structures. Review the vocabulary words and have students practice pronunciation, using them in sentences, and asking each other questions related to fears. Students can work in pairs or small groups to discuss their own fears using the vocabulary words. Listening: Play the audio recording for 1a. Have students listen and match the descriptions (1-5) with the fears (a-e). Discuss the answers as a class. Reading and Speaking: Ask students to read the passage in 1b individually. In pairs or small groups, have students discuss the questions in 1b and share their opinions and experiences.
