This article mainly describes the molecular mechanisms and treatment strategies of acute kidney injury. In terms of molecular mechanisms, this review focuses on inflammation, oxidative stress, and apoptosis; that caused acute kidney injury. On the treatment strategies, mainly discussed the strategies for treating acute kidney injury from non-specific intervention measures, specific treatment, and cell therapy. Keywords: Acute kidney injury, molecular mechanisms, treatment strategies, non-specific intervention measures, specific treatment, cell therapy Introduction Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a common and severe clinical syndrome that leads to high morbidity and mortality in hospitalized patients. The incidence of AKI has been increasing over the past decade due to the aging population, the increasing incidence of diabetes, and hypertension. AKI can be caused by a wide variety of causes, including sepsis, ischemia/reperfusion injury, nephrotoxic agents, and hypovolemia. Despite advances in medical care and the use of supportive therapies, the mortality rate among patients with AKI remains high. Molecular Mechanisms of AKI Inflammation Inflammation is one of the major causes of AKI, characterized by the infiltration of inflammatory cells and the production of inflammatory cytokines. Inflammatory cells produce cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and interleukin-6 (IL-6), which can increase oxidative stress and reduce blood flow to the kidneys.
