?Cricket?fighting (斗蟋蟀) The?Cricket fighting is a kind of game and amusement in many areas in China and is often held in the late autumn. It is also called Qiuxing(秋兴) or?Dou Cuzhi(斗促织). There are the most crickets in the rural fields, and people in many parts of China have the custom of fighting crickets after tea and dinner. Adults will first take children to the field to catch crickets, and then go to the trees to play cricket fighting games, which is interesting. The cricket culture in China has a long history . It is also one of the Chinese arts. Cricket breeding and fighting can date back to the Tang Dynasty, developing in the Song Dynasty and popular in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. The Great Plains in Shandong is renowned as the native haunt of crickets across China; in particular, Ningjin County in Shandong Province is reputed as the gem on the crown of the cricket kingdom. The cricket bred in Ningjin County is big in head, neck and legs with fine color of skin. Meanwhile, they are born with indomitable will to fight and strong power of endurance, ferocity, toughness and unyieldingness(resoluteness by virtue of being unyielding and inflexible). each inside a bamboo cage, wooden boxes, clay pots, or a plastic container. For centuries, China has regarded a cricket chirping/singing around the house as good luck; a deluge/big gathering of crickets means wealth will come to the family. Under the Tang dynasty (618–907 AD), the Chinese began keeping crickets as musical pets. “Ladies of the palace” would catch crickets and carry them around. At night, the women would place the crickets near their pillow during moments of loneliness. As the pastime grew more popular, citizens began sending thousands of their best crickets to the capital each year as gifts for the emperor.
