This course expounds the nature and function of the discipline about the epistemological problem about industrial design briefly mainly from four aspects, including the design and industrial design, industrial design direction, industrial design disciplines foundation and operating skills, industry present situation and development prospect of domestic industrial design, and points out why industrial design practice is different from the liberal arts modelling methods about methodological problems, expounded the interdisciplinary nature of industrial design, composition, the structure of the necessary theoretical knowledge and practice skills. Finally，it also clarify the uniqueness of the industrial design as a discipline, and have their position in the big division of labor of dialectical relationship with different talents .
