FOR USE IN SUMMER 2021 ONLY Summer 2021 Grade Descriptors Teacher Guidance for GCSE, AS Level, A Level, Core Maths, FSMQ, Extended Project Level 3 This document sets out best practice on using grade descriptors when making student performance judgements. Grade Descriptors should be used with the Grade Exemplification. Grade Exemplification will be made available by each awarding organisation. The descriptors and exemplification should be used to make holistic judgements about student performance. Where to get further support This document should be used alongside:  JCQ Guidance on the determination of grades for A/AS Levels and GCSEs for Summer 2021  Specific qualification exemplification for each subject The grade descriptors Grade descriptors are general statements that give a high-level reflection of candidate performance characteristics. They are based on the assessment objectives for the relevant specification. The specific assessment objectives are found in each subject specification. Each awarding organisation is using the same grade descriptors. Each awarding organisation will create exemplification for each specification. The exemplification uses student work to illustrate the grade descriptors. The exemplification should be available from 19 April 2021. The descriptors will help you place student performance relative to the performance standards set for Summer 2021. The performance standards for Summer 2021 are similar to previous years where an examination series took place.
