Analysis and processing of common defects of investment castings-chemical
composites and mechanical composites

Abstract The mechanical composite and the chemical composite are common defects of investment castings,
and they are a layer of metal-mould material composite adhering to the casting surface. The paper emphatically
narrates the external features of the mechanical composite and the chemical composite as well as generation
zones, mechanism and causes, and proposes some practical and effective measures to enhance the qualifi cation
rate from such aspects as material of investment castings, mould manufacturing process, calcination process
and melting process.
