Based on the numerical model, the performance indexes of boiler system are calculated at different conditions using EES (Engineering Equation Software). The results show that when the exhausted gas or inlet air temperature increases 10- 15 , the heat loss of exhaust gas decreases 0.8%-1% and thermal efficiency of boiler system increases 0.8%-1%. The crucial factors that can affect thermal efficiency are exhaust gas temperature and fuel volatile ratio; seven optimized schemes are designed for a case of boiler system. A new methodology is provided for evaluating the efficiency of boiler system. Keywords: boiler; model reduction; numerical simulation; thermal efficiency; evaluation model; optimal design 1.Introduction Boiler is one of the high energy-consumption equipment to provide hot water/steam for the community and industry, the account of fuel consumption is about 400 million to 500 million tons of standard coal every year. The actual thermal efficiency of coal-fired boiler is only 60%-65%, which is lower than the international level of 15% to 20%. There are some common problems of boiler combustion, such as incomplete combustion and high carbon content in slags [1-2]. Domestic and foreign researchers conducted a large number of studies on the influence of the boiler thermal efficiency, these studies focus on excess air coefficient[3], exhaust heat loss and solid incomplete combustion heat loss[4].
