The Mid-Autumn Festival lunar August 15th (农历八月十五) Time: Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the four major traditional festivals. the other three ? The Spring Festival 春节 the Lantern Festival 元宵节 the Dragon Boat Festival 端午节 Beautiful Legends Hou Yi shoots down nine suns. 后羿射日 According to Chinese mythology, the earth once had 10 suns circling over it. One day, all 10 suns appeared together, scorching the earth with their heat. The earth was saved when a strong archer, Hou Yi, succeeded in shooting down 9 of the suns. Yi stole the elixir(长生药) of life to save the people from his tyrannical rule, but his wife, Chang-E drank it. Thus started the legend of the lady in the moon to whom young Chinese girls would pray at the Mid-Autumn Festival. Chang’e flies to the moon. 嫦娥奔月 The Jade Hare smashes medicine. 玉兔捣药 Wu Gang cuts the laurel. 吴刚伐桂 Wuyan worships the moon. 无盐拜月 Customs moon walk(走月亮 ) eat moon-cake(吃月饼) fire the tower light(点塔灯 ) fire Douxiang(烧斗香 ) Worship moon put the sky lights(放天灯 ) plant the Mid-Autumn(树中秋 ) enjoy the moon(赏月) eat moon-cakes On the Mid-Autumn Festival , people have to eat moon cakes to show "Reunion." Moon cakes, also known as Hu cake, pie palace, monthly group, harvest cake, reunion cake, are the offerings of ancient moon worship Moon.
