Saikaly* increased resource (water, energy, food, Dual-function electrocatalytic and macroporous hollow-fiber cathodes and chemicals) consumption with con- are recently proposed as promising advanced material for maximizing comitant production of large volumes of the conversion of waste streams such as wastewater and waste CO2 to “used resources,” commonly recognized as waste. These “used resources” could valuable resources (e.g., clean freshwater, energy, value-added chemicals) potentially represent an economic value if in microbial electrochemical systems.
